Zoffany's Daughter: Love and Treachery on a Small Island by Stephen Foster

In 1825, Cecilia Zoffany flees to the island of Guernsey with two of her daughters, one disguised as a boy.  In hot pursuit, her estranged husband, asserting his power as a father, demands the younger daughter return with him to England. Cecilia appeals to the natural rights of a mother. Everyone has an opinion, but ultimately the Royal Court of Guernsey must decide.

This is a true story.  But how much of it can we believe?

Join Professor Kim Rubenstein, ANU College of Law, and author Stephen Foster for the launch of this remarkable foray into history and fiction.
