What does it mean to ‘display war’? Dr Jennifer Wellington, University College Dublin, examines a range of exhibitions in Britain, Canada and Australia. She reveals how these countries developed different understandings of World War I, despite their cultural, political and institutional similarities. In Britain a popular narrative developed of the War as a tragic break with the past, while Australia and Canada came to see it as engendering national birth through violence.
